Description

A polished, professional demo reel and performance clips are an essential part of the working actor’s toolkit. In this class, actors will discover what it takes to create a successful reel, one that not only highlights their unique talent, but engages the agent, casting director, producer and/or director viewing it. Actors will learn how to select clips that reveal their character range, their craft skills, and their vocal and physical talents. Examples of high-quality reels and content will be viewed, and each attendee’s reel, whether in-progress or polished, will receive individualized feedback, suggestions and attention.

In this class, actors will learn:
  • Why a reel is important
  • Why performance clips are important
  • Which clips reveal range in character & emotional connection
  • How each clip should begin and end
  • How to select and edit the sequence of clips
  • The preferred length of clips and finished reel
  • How to mix genres within a reel
  • Technical requirements of a reel
  • How filmmakers, producers, casting directors and agents use your video materials

This class is interactive and discussion-based. Each actor will have the opportunity to review their own clips & reel under the guidance of Erica Arvold & Richard Warner, who will offer their candid feedback and advice.

The class is limited to 10 actors to allow time for in-depth review work in a creative, safe environment.

As an added bonus to the class, each student will be offered the opportunity to send their updated reel (should they want to edit it based on what they learn in class) for review by Richard Warner within one (1) week after the class.

***THIS CLASS IS NOT AN AUDITION; while we encourage you to bring your materials for review, discussion and feedback, we will not be receiving any for submission to current projects. Erica will be using her experience solely to educate participants. Richard’s bonus review offering is entirely educational, and will not be accepted as or viewed as submission material to any arvold projects.

arvold classes focus on both the philosophical and pragmatic aspects of being a film artist.
